Garmin Connect

Garmin Connect L knee still tight and swollen! Man, it's been nearly a month. Walked today and didn't feel much pain. Moved a lot at work, walking from meeting to meeting and otherwise have been keeping it elevated as much as possible. Feeling better in the evening for some reason.

L Knee still swollen

Garmin Connect
L knee swollen / tight for the last week. Taking Alleve to see if that helps anything. Didn't think I was pushing anything, but something is whacked. Both the inside of the knee and the backside. Back click / crack while shifting during a meeting this morning. Still stretching and walking, though!

Brennan Puffy Ear

This keeps recurring, but not at regular enough intervals that we noticed a pattern. Adding here for future reference.

Since Sunday, L knee sore

Since sunday afternoon / evening, my left knee has been a problem. Not sure what's up with that. Maybe from the 4 games I officiated, and standing around watching Brian & Brennan's game? Just yoga yesterday and then a nice walk today w/ some strength exercises. Trying to take it easy today. It just feels swollen and tight.

Day four - five

Yesterday we spent between breakfast, blizzard beach, and dinner. Breakfast was with Chef Mickey and dinner was at rain forest cafe. Blizzard beach was okay but an awful lot of work get there, get ready, wait in lines, and then get to dinner in time. And it poured again at Disney springs! Food was good though.

Today was breakfast in "the" castle at magic kingdom. Annie liked the food but wasn't entirely impressed with it in general. We did some rides including the seven dwarves mine rude which was good but short. Annie didn't do space mountain but the rest of us did, even Brian. Lunch on the go and dinner at Be Our Guest. It's was a late lunch so almost ask the dinners and desserts came back in boxes.

Annie sure or a tin of work into this trip!

Disney day three

Didn't sleep great due to kids needing help and a very late swim at 10:30. Nice sunny weather so far. Signed up for Jedi training, had breakfast at a cafe, and then watched the first order March! Potty break and then toy story.
That was a fun game! Rush through wake Disney museum, then star tours simulator ride, then literally run to the Jedi academy check in. But as usual we were early. So a pity break, may and I held slots at the Jedi show and around noon, dark clouds started rolling in. Sweet!
Kids show for postponed so we went to the star wars theatre, then muppets 3D. Then a nice Italian lunch, and the Indians Jones stunt show. After some stress around doing tower of terror or Jedi training, and a potty break, we are doing Jedi. Tower is next.

Disney day two

Animal kingdom. The threat of rain was ever present but it was just a couple spots and the cloud cover was perfect thanks to hurricane Hermine. Everest was so good we did it three times! The Kali rapids was short and not that exciting though it's good if you want to get wet. We cancelled our breakfast, did the safari which was cool, and lunch at the Tusker buffet was fantastic. We switched up or dinner because when we arrived it looked very fancy and they were a double charge restaurant. We had pizza instead and they messed up or order but we got an extra water and iced tea out of it 😀

Disney day one

EPCOT is the experimental prototype community of tomorrow. The day started with a Norwegian breakfast, and the first ride we did was frozen. I absolutely loved it. Everyone else did too. Not very exciting, but the great atmosphere and great. We got to do space mission twice, we did spaceship earth, we did Nemo and friends which was not that exciting, and we ended the day with the test track which was great. The Japanese lunch wasn't great - Tappan Edo - because it was so loud. The Italian food was good, but there server has no clue about the dining plan and screwed up or order twice so it took two hours for us to finish and get it out there. The different countries were cool but we didn't get to do many of them; the Canada ride was closed.

Still Going Strong

Garmin Connect: Still vegetarian and most days, straight-up vegan I think. Loving the chop chop fresh veggie salad I found on Clean Food crush. My L PF has been acting up a bit lately so icing it at home & at work. Need to be ready for Disney!

The day started w/ the usual yoga & ab work (50 situps, 40 leg lifts, 60 sec plank).
I started todays run w/ 3 sets of 20x jumping jacks, 10x squats, 10x lunges, 20x mountain climbers, and 10 shoulder taps. Kept my breathing under control nearly the entire time except going from Engraved up Fox. But I was able to get it back under control pretty quickly. Nice long walk to recover and a relaxing morning so far. Not running fast, but at least I'm running.

Nuts

Accidentally ate bacon in some broccoli salad at the Dibble party. Even the baked beans had pulled pork in them so it was just tough. Overall, can't recall the last time I ate meat and I'm glad for that for many reasons.

2016/05/24

Ouch

Didn't eat dinner until 10pm due to soccer practice, the dinner was gone when I got home, and then I had to run out to get some stuff for Brian's field trip. After practice we stopped for ice cream and I got a sunburst fizz. At Wegmans I had a cookie. For dinner I had a grilled cheese w/ egg (Monks wheat bread, 1 slice cheddar, 1 slice muenster, butter & olive oil in the pan.

Went to sleep around 11:30.

Woke at 1am with pain in my intestines. Sat on the can for about 20 minutes and the pain continued to intensify. Got so bad I almost screamed for Annie and thought I was headed to the hospital. Finally got it out it seemed but body continued to feel "off". Somehow I made it to work. Feel just OK today, though sticking with veggies & water for a while. Had Caesar salad at Applebee's with Annie & the Becken's for lunch.

Was it because I slammed the sunburst fizz? Orange soda & orange sherbet. Or the late dinner? Whatever, I'm now afraid of the toilet for a while.

Glad THAT's over!

So Friday night I left work a bit early to race home & get Allison to her dance recital practice for the Elmira studio. We got home around 9:30pm. While we were doing that, Annie took the boys to the school variety show rehearsal. They were done much sooner.

Saturday morning Annie, her dad, & the boys went to Centerway for a 1-mile walk in support of a local charity. It was promoted by Father Lou Brown and sounds like they had fun. I drove Allison back out to Elmira for rehearsal with the Watkins Glen studio. Brennan missed a soccer festival with everything going on. Allison & I were in Elmira until 1:30pm at which point we raced home, let the dog out, got Annie a coffee, and then went to the school variety show - she was in act # 1 and 12 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wgx44u_HDmU). After that it was the "cast" party at the real school which went until 8pm. Then we spent a fun hour or two packing / re-packing / and re-packing for Sunday because...

At 10am I left the house w/ the boys & took them to the grandparents. They would eventually go to church w/ Dudey & have McDonalds for lunch. After dropping them off I put gas in the car and then dashed home to pick up Annie & Allison. We headed to Elmira for the recital with the Watkins Glen studio. I dropped them off around 11:15, then went to Wegmans for flowers & subs. Recital was from 1-3:30 - I really screwed up the Daddy / Daughter dance. We didn't go too far after that because...

Leslies School of Dance team showcase (the traveling team that goes to competitions around the state) was from 5-6. At 6, the Elmira studio recital began. It was much bigger and went until 9:30pm. The boys & grandparents showed up around 6pm and stayed the whole time. I used up my cash buying snacks for them as they hadn't eaten dinner. After packing up Allison & driving everyone home, the boys were starving so I made mac & cheese from a box - not happy about that but it was 10:15. Then I looked at my phone & saw the reminder that I had to go to work to do the period closing. I got almost everyone into some bed and left right around 11. I vowed to be home within an hour, but the recent server migration is really slowing things down. I didn't get to leave until after midnight.

I made it home safely, took care of the pets, and went to bed. My alarm woke me at 6am, though I didn't go running or walking or anything. I eventually folded laundry, got cereal from the store, and made breakfast. I even made it to work and put in a full day (add in the time from the previous night). Soccer practice tonight but thankfully, work has been very dull and slow which is a nice break from the weekend :-)

Corning dog walk :-)

Garmin Connect
Wanted to walk longer but couldn't fit it into the schedule. Slept great & longer than usual, then stretch, and then a walk. Great morning was crucial since I'll be mostly sitting around during dance recitals for the rest of the day.

Garmin Connect

Garmin Connect. Glad the start the day w/ some stretching. Then I was able to stroll around Elmira for the first time in 15 years while Allison was at the rehearsal for her dance recital on Sunday. We were at the Clemens Center until 9pm Friday night to practice w/ the Elmira studio folks, and had to return today for the Watkins Glen folks (ballet). Eh, it's what you do when you have kids.

Now, last night I was up past 11 working, and no problems today. Brian even woke me at 4am but still I had no trouble waking and felt great all day. My body is confusing myself.

Garmin Connect

Garmin Connect A nice walk to start the day. Belle was in heaven as she didn't have to be on the leash at all.

Garmin Connect

Garmin Connect: Finally not feeling like crap so very happy to get out w/ the dog this morning. Almost jogged a bit but decided to just keep it slow. BP 125/74 pulse 80.

Fun day

Up to the Rochester Museum of play today and then mowed the lawn when I got home. Annie drove from Dansville home and I definitely fell asleep hard. Not as young as I used to be.

Garmin Connect

Garmin Connect
lunges, squats, mountain climbers and a dog walk. didn't want to overdo it since I haven't done much recently. L heel has been feeling good lately. only one more ref game on my schedule so time to get moving again.

Heart palpitations?

Late yesterday and this morning - heart palpitations? Whatever it is, I don't like it. Haven't had it in a long while. Very stressed last night running around the house trying to get ready for the week and today my Spring Cleaning event at work and soccer practice tonight. Just typing this gets me beating faster. Did get in my workout this morning, though.

2016/04/12

Well THAT sucked

The day wasn't bad at all. It was fine / great until the afternoon. Work was busy and good. I left at 2:00pm to get the kids and that was fine. They did their homework, had something to eat, and were all good when I left at 4:10 to head to Horseheads for the varsity lax game between Horseheads & Union-Endicott. The game went okay, but I did have one or two hiccups - that's to be expected. The bad part was the field was horrible and my L ankle was hugely sore. I massaged it all the way to Corning and it started to feel better. Then it was on to the stadium for varsity Corning Hawks vs Ithaca. Again, for most of the game, it went fine. The third guy was a bit of a drag and there were some issues with communications and such, but the referee team worked it out.

THEN, the last 48 seconds happened. I was the trail official, as Ithaca was clearing. I knew the score was close but at the time I wasn't sure what it was exactly. The goalie came out, went to pass, was challenged on the pass and at most, bumped, and then the goalie hacked the Hawk kid and I threw the flag. Well that caused all sorts of pandemonium. Of course, that meant the backup goalie had to come in and the little red coach was furious. Then, the Hawks scored and it was tied. Then they scored again with 0.5 seconds remaining and won the game.

Just so happens that the president of the lacrosse officials board was at the game - I worked the earlier game with him and I knew he was in the stands, but I didn't know he was from Ithaca. Well I got a good talking to about the slashing call after walking off the field and going into the locker room. The thing that I'm not upset about is they weren't arguing whether or not it was a bad call, they were saying I shouldn't have made that call given the game situation. I didn't fight him on it, just took it. Had I argued, I'd be done for sure. I understand what he is saying, but I mentioned to Frank that I always thought we were supposed to call it the same at the end as the beginning. Not so, I guess. Not sure what's going to happen going forward, but it was not a good feeling. I don't feel upset or angry or anything, just pensive. It WAS a slash, for sure. Just a learning experience I guess. But I'm not certain I'll be able to make that adjustment - I'm just a black & white sort of person.

Feeling old - I slipped

Was kicking the ball with Brian while waiting for Allison's dance to finish. I slipped in the mud and now my right ankle / exterior is sore. Iced it a bit but still sore. Soccer practice tonight and two lax games tomorrow so hopefully it's not serious.

2016/04/06

And so it ends

Well, it's been a good run, but I finally ate meat again. I've been really craving it lately and since the kids wouldn't eat the chicken, I decided I would. Plus my weight just hasn't gotten any better. I will have more veggies in my diet thanks to this experiment, but I'll enjoy the occasional burger, too.

2016/03/14

One full week as a Veggie lover

It's officially one week of not eating any meat and the weight has started to go back down a bit. Not because of eating veggies or anything, but because I was just better about eating in general. I don't expect tomorrow will be as good as we had pizza and ice cream at the church Alpha course tonight, but maybe extra sleep will help. Actually, it seems like it's been more than a week, but it certainly hasn't been as hard to keep doing as I originally thought. Of course, I was also trying to go dairy-free but adding yogurt back into the diet really helped add more protein to the diet, though I pretty much stick to Suggi's flavors. It easy to keep them in the fridge since no one else in the family likes them! Tomorrow, back on the stretching & yoga. I took a couple days off w/ the USSF course all day Saturday & Sunday.

2016/03/12

Still going...

It's been almost a week without any meat in my diet. I did have an egg yesterday and I've added some dairy back into my meals to keep my protein up. So far, not much difference except I'm really not using the bathroom as much. That and I'm eating more vegetables. I discovered Kefir which doesn't taste bad, and Suggi's yogurt which is awesome. You have to love a product with the tagline "More protein than sugar".

Garmin Connect - walk

Garmin Connect - Tried to focus on keeping a quick pace & it paid off. Felt nicely winded when I was done. It was a bit breezy which kept me cooler than I would have preferred, but it was probably for the best in the end.

Garmin Connect - yoga

Garmin Connect - RW yoga. I don't really like it - she talks too quickly. But you can't argue w/ burning 200 calories and feeling stretched.

2016/03/10

Easy workout

Garmin Connect - very tired this morning but had to walk the dog! ended up doing three sets of lunges and mountain climbers which immediately improved the ankle.

2016/03/09

Walk and jog

Garmin connect - a bit sleepy this morning but very happy to get up and moving and even jogging a bit. breathing very hard going uphill felt great. ankle wasn't perfect, but hours late in not feeling any discomfort or pain! I continue to massage it every morning even before getting out of bed and that seems to be working.

2016/03/08

Do I want to keep doing this?

I ate no meat today. Veggies to snack on during the day, shake for breakfast, no lunch, and pizza for dinner. How many days can I do it?

2016/03/06

Nick Bottoni Tournament

Garmin Connect - My first time at the tourney and it was swell, though I just could NOT stay out of the way sometimes. One girl ran into me and the ball bounced off me twice. It was crazy. Turns out there weren't enough teams for the boys tourney on Saturday so it was jut today. Bath girls won the title over Addison. And one of the semi-finals was Addison1 vs Addison2. All the games were really good. I was struck by the difference in play between the Corning United team vs the others, especially Bath. The CU team seemed to be playing dump-and-chase, sort of like hockey. The other teams were much more adept at looking for someone to receive a pass, and better touch passing as well. At one point they did a really nice pass back-and-forth to get around a defense, and there was some nice triangle play also. How do you teach that to young kids? It was really impressive, considering.

I was the only ref not wearing pants - didn't get the memo! I wore a new pair of NB sneakers I picked up just a couple hours earlier since all I had otherwise was my black outdoor turf shoes. I didn't do much moving so I could have gotten away with the outdoor ones, but I didn't know. At the end of the match we stayed to help clean up and the concession stand let the leftover hot dogs & pizza go for free.

Since this was a fundraiser, I was shocked that there is no website promoting it. Not even a Facebook page! Someone mentioned that there's a tournament listing site, but no one was sure whether or not this tournament was listed. I mentioned via email that I'd be happy to help with that. I also noticed they had fancy trophies - wonder how much they were & where they got them. At any rate, one meeting in the books for SCHSSA (Steuben County High School Soccer Association). They really need to change that name; nothing in it references who we are: referees & officials.

Garmin Connect - Walk / Jog

Garmin Connect: Not too breezy to be outside so I had some fun making up a route w/ belle. I got a burr up my butt and decided to jog a little, too. Just a few minutes but at the end of an uphill climb so definitely got the breathing going. I started the day with a long yoga session and this felt pretty good, too. No issue with the heels today but I'll be cooped up in the car tomorrow, driving to a funeral and back so glad to get this in the books. Officially put 100 miles on a pair of sneakers with this one, too :-)

Garmin Connect - Yoga

Garmin Connect: Runners World --> yoga for runners: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wqkeH2jMLt0. It was a good one, lots of twists and definitely got the heart rate up. Heels not too troublesome this morning.

2016/03/02

Garmin Connect - Dog Walk

First Yoga, then walking. Can't believe how windy it was - made it much colder than the thermometer said. Jogged for just a minute or two for fun. Hoka Clifton's helped cushion things. I also took a few minutes before getting out of bed and massaged my heels using the balls of my feet and opposite heel. I did it for the last few days and I'll try to keep it up.

Garmin Connect

Garmin Connect - Yoga

Daily Yoga: Standing Routine 1. Left thigh & hamstring were really feeling it today. Maybe reverse sides next time - do left first, and then right.

Dog Walk

Garmin Connect
Only 27° - I should have worn pants. But I stuck it out and got in a full mile. Need to start putting some pace into these soon.

Yoga

Man, old Garmin Connect doesn't provide much detail when posting. Good to know going forward. Anywho, tough to get out of bed this morning, but glad to get some stretching done. Daily Yoga For Body Toning 1. I did some extra hip stretching as well.

I have returned...

Amazing to me how far apart time-wise these Blog posts are, and yet I keep coming back. Running isn't going so well since my L achilles continues to be a pain. It was good today after I massaged it, did 20 minutes of Yoga, and 20 minutes of walking. I also stood quite a bit at work and was very busy at night. Could be I just didn't notice it much, but we'll see how tomorrow shakes out. Gotta get back into easy movement as lax & soccer officiating start next month. Pinewood Derby tomorrow night then dance competition on Saturday.
