My journey in trying to balance a sedentary job with some workouts and a crazy-busy family.
I run because I fear the day when I can't.

Backpacking practice w/ Brian
Finally got out this year - had to push this back twice and didn't to get to go to FLT as I had hoped. But felt great to get out. Brian's new pack seemed fine and he loved the trekking poles. He was quite adventurous and had a good time.
Here are a few pics.

Ouch
Hope crap my R shoulder hurts. No idea why except for sleeping on my side. It's never felt like this, though.

Start of 2019
It's been a slow, sad, depressing end to 2018 in the way I have failed to get enough sleep, eat well, or otherwise take care of myself. Hoping for a better attitude & commitment going forward. But I have been blessed with a beautiful family and so many things God has forgiven me for, I need to focus & take advantage.
Annie is w/ her parents in FL - they flew down today.
Allison is at the Updyke's overnight.
Just the boys, me, Belle, and Stella. Went to bed at 11pm and they are sleeping soundly but I stayed up to look over some things. Tomorrow taking J and the kids to the Rochester Museum of Play - I'll be missing a New Years Day hike on the FLT, mainly due to Brennan's asthma, but not much you can do about that.
Annie returns Thursday.

Disney 2018
Down here with the Syracuse Nordmans, the Dibbles, and on Sunday, some Nuns for good measure. Left Corning Wednesday and drive to Syracuse. Early Three-day for to Orlando. Dinner at Trex at 4 and we just made it!
-Staying at Carribean Resorts. Great weather the first couple days - needed a jacket the evening Thursday and Friday.
-Saturday the boys were off at the resort as Allison has to go to dance and Annie went with Alexandra to see Allison. Boys went swimming and did laundry.
-Sunday started in a rush as Allison has to get ready for the dance parade, and we went to magic kingdom. It got really hot, very quickly which wasn't in any of our long term forecasts so we had to buy sunglasses, hard, and shorts. But we toughed it through. Kids stayed up late swimming with the Updykes.
-Monday was Hollywood Studios. It was hot today and even a few rain spells. Star Wars tour and other attractions were awesome. Tower if Terror - the first time for Brian and Mommy was a success though stressful. Lunch at the Hollywood & Vine was fantastic. The Rock n Roller coaster kept getting shut down but we were able to get on later in the night. The Star Wars rides & attractions were really cool. We ended the night going to Beauty & The Beast plus the Frozen sing-a-long. Then got drenched in a monsoon while rushing for the bus.
-Tuesday left at 5:30 am to get on bus & get home.
PHEW! Tense moments overshadowed by all the fun.

Sinuses
3 or 4 days now of sinus headaches keeping me from sleeping well and making the daylight hours torture. Daylight savings time - extra hour - started the past weekend also.

Brennan Asthma
On Sunday Annie left for North Carolina. Brennan had developed a cough so I kept him home from school on Monday. Around lunch I grabbed his inhaler refill from the pharmacy but it was a powder kind and we think it wasn't working right or something because he felt no better after 15 doses. He kept having more & more trouble breathing and eventually I got pretty worried. I called Annie and she had the great suggestion of calling Lindsay Z from next door. After about 20 seconds she assured us going to the ER was the right thing to do! He was wheezing badly & his pulse was 120.
Short story is he got 2 breathing treatments & some Prednisone. Dudey came over to be with Brian & Allison even though they were sleeping - weren't sure what the hospital would end up doing. Our NP was Linda Jennings! Everyone was friendly & helpful and they got him right into a room. Ben was the nurse who first evaluated him. Sandi gave him the nebulizer treatments. We had a follow-up on Tuesday w/ Kathy Galloway even though they originally said there was no room in the schedule - which is what they said Monday when I had tried to get him seen. She upped his Prednisone dosage and got us another inhaler for school. He returns today and I'm just hoping it goes smoothly.

Brian Birthday - Laser Tag
Brian sent out the invitations to his friends and we all had a BLAST playing laser tag! Uncle Andrew & his kids played also. It was rainy and dark at the start and thank goodness Annie brought extra hats, gloves, & scarves. It got warmer eventually. I didn't think 1 hour would be enough time, but everyone seemed happy afterwards. Once I got top-gun and another time I had the best kill-to-death ration (10:2). Brian invited Tully, Jackson Olson, Ethan Hursh, Linus, Phillipe, & James (couldn't make it). After that we went to Aniello's which was mobbed, but there was enough space for us - nana & dudey came also as that was where they said goodbye to Andrew & family.

Sinuses?
It's been a few days of feeling horrible when I wake, no matter how early I go to bed. It's my R eye and ear and neck. Perhaps a change of the seasons? We've also had the Jacksons staying with us so maybe it's just a change in routine, but I figure I mention it just for tracking.
R knee continues to improve. It's been 1 month. I feel like I could do the elliptical but still not running, lunging, or squatting.

Brief Gym Visit
I had a cold a couple days ago. Nothing big, just FYI.
Today I went to the Y and did 5 minutes on the elliptical and 2 sets of 10 reps on the leg extension machine. Nothing big, but trying to get a feel for how I'm progressing. R knee still hurts when I press on it and I can't bring my heel to my rear to stretch. But all-in-all, it's going okay.
